Privacy policy

Mashq (mashq.academy) is an online school for Arabic calligraphy. This page explains what we collect when you use it, why, and what you can do about it.

  1. 1. What we collect

    • Your account: name, email address and password (stored encrypted by our sign-in provider). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email and profile picture from Google.
    • What you add: your profile picture, practice you upload (photos, PDFs, videos), comments, messages and their attachments, and your answers to the welcome questions.
    • How you learn: the programs you join, the lessons you finish, your corrections, points and certificates.
    • Your devices: if you turn on alerts, the address your browser gives us to deliver them; and whether you're online, shown to teachers while you use Mashq.

  2. 2. Why we use it

    • To run your account and your lessons, and to let your teachers see and correct your practice.
    • To send you notifications and alerts you asked for, and emails about your account.
    • To improve Mashq, using your welcome answers (how you heard about us, your level and goals).

  3. 3. Who can see it

    • Your teachers and Mashq's administrators see your practice, progress and messages.
    • Other students see only your name, picture and points on the leaderboard, and your comments on lessons.
    • Teacher pages (name, picture, bio, works) are public when a teacher publishes them.
    • We never sell your data or show advertising.

  4. 4. Services we rely on

    • Supabase: database, file storage and sign-in.
    • Vercel: hosting of the website.
    • Google: sign-in, if you choose it.
    • YouTube: some lesson videos are played from YouTube (in privacy-enhanced mode).
    • Resend: sending emails.

  5. 5. Cookies

    • We only use the cookies Mashq needs to work: one to keep you signed in and one to remember your language. No advertising or tracking cookies.

  6. 6. How long we keep it, and your rights

    • We keep your data while your account exists. When an account is deleted, its practice, corrections, progress, comments and messages are deleted with it.
    • You can see and change your name and picture on your profile at any time.
    • You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account, by writing to us.

  7. 7. Children

    • Students under 16 should use Mashq with the permission of a parent or guardian.
